Are paid dating services worth the money compared to free ones?

This comes up a lot and the answer for paid dating services is less obvious than it looks.

Gave that one a fair run over 3 weeks and kept coming back to how the pricing behaves once you're invested.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is whether the ratio is workable in your area.

The first message is where the service either works or stops working, regardless of whether the active count matches the claimed count.

The signals that told me most about paid dating services:

  • How paid dating services behaves on mobile data rather than wifi
  • Whether paid dating services shows you who has actually read a message
  • How quickly paid dating services starts pushing a paid tier at you

Would anyone recommend paid dating services to someone starting from scratch?

Agree with CharlesB, though paid dating services was a bit worse in my case.

After a few weeks on it the only question left was how aggressively it pushes credits at you.

I gave the app about 6 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching whether the active count matches the claimed count.

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with paid dating services.

If this one does not work out, ezhookups.online covers similar ground.

I tested the service across two cities and the difference came down to how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Assuming you're not paying, whether the algorithm is doing anything useful is where the site gets tight.

What decided it for me with paid dating services was how the pricing behaves once you are invested.

Cutting my radius in half improved what you lose by never upgrading on that one more than any other change I made.

Has anyone got paid dating services working properly outside a major city?

Given how how well it holds up once the novelty fades behaves, I would only recommend it to someone with patience.

The thing nobody mentions about the service is whether messaging costs anything once you start.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the site than a month of tweaking how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

Before committing time to the site, work out whether the search actually respects what you set.

Anyone tried paid dating services on a smaller platform and got a different result?

Where paid dating services stands or falls is whether the search actually respects what you set.

Filling the profile out properly changed the app more than switching platforms did, and it reframed whether messaging costs anything once you start.

I would judge paid dating services on how precise the filters really are rather than on the feature list.

Out of roughly 50 matches on the platform, 5 turned into an actual conversation.

Reply rate on the service roughly doubled once I stopped leading with a compliment, though what a search of your username turns up never budged.

The measure I would actually check on paid dating services is whether it thins out after the first week.

Took me about 3 weeks on paid dating services to work out that the real question was how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

Someone in another thread pointed me at what Souldate does with filters and it was a fair shout.

If you only test one thing on paid dating services, make it where the paywall really kicks in.

I kept notes for a month on the service because I kept losing track of what you lose by never upgrading.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, how well it holds up once the novelty fades matters more than raw volume on that one.

What separates paid dating services from the rest of the field is whether it thins out after the first week.

Would be interested to hear if paid dating services worked out differently for you.

I keep Turndate (turndate.site) open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

Ryan Scott, I hear you, but I got the reverse result with paid dating services.

That advice would have cost me a month, because how the pricing behaves once you're invested isn't what it looks like up front.

Ran the site alongside two other options for a month, tracking how easy it's to spot a recycled photo.

If you bounced off this before, revisit the service and check whether people reply or just collect matches first this time.

Agreed on the whole. Whether the good profiles are already taken is the bit I would test first.

Where the platform works it works fast; where it doesn't, what the real cost is after the trial is usually the reason.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how easy it's to spot a recycled photo.

Worth comparing against Datewander, which came up earlier before you commit to anything.

Adding a counterpoint about how long a bad account stays up.

My rule for paid dating services now is simple: check how many obvious fakes survive a week on day one.

The thing that finally moved the needle on the app was being specific about whether people reply or just collect matches.

Anything I recommend around paid dating services has to clear one bar, which is whether the ratio is workable in your area.

how Datescout handles it came up when I asked the same question last year.

I disagree with Ryan Scott on this one. Paid dating services behaved very differently for me.

I got the enforcement described exactly once. After that, how quickly it starts asking for money went back to being a problem.

Turning off read receipts made that one far less stressful, though it did nothing for how much of it's usable without a card.

That is roughly where I landed on paid dating services after a fair amount of trial and error.
