Do actual dating apps still exist, or is everything just "gamified" now?

Worth separating what actual dating apps promises from what it delivers after week one.

Two of us compared notes on that one and landed in the same place on how much of the traffic is automated.

After a few weeks on actual dating apps the only question left was how much data leaves the app.

Photo quality moved my results on the platform more than anything I wrote, more even than whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

If your area is thin, the site will not fix that, whatever whether the interface gets in the way looks like.

Things worth confirming before you spend a week on actual dating apps:

  • How quickly actual dating apps starts pushing a paid tier at you
  • Whether the actual dating apps photos survive a reverse image search
  • How fast a report about actual dating apps gets a human response
  • Whether actual dating apps lets you send the first message without a card on file

Has anyone got actual dating apps working properly outside a major city?

Sophia Lane is right about this and I would go a step further on actual dating apps.

I would judge actual dating apps on how quickly you can narrow a list down rather than on the feature list.

Deleted and reinstalled the app twice before accepting the issue was whether the algorithm is doing anything useful and not my profile.

Sophia Lane covered most of it. The bit I would add on actual dating apps is below.

About 100 profiles into the platform, the pattern around whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk became obvious.

If you bounced off this before, revisit that one and check whether the algorithm is doing anything useful first this time.

That is my read on actual dating apps anyway, others will have had different luck.

Different crowd on the Datewander boards, which suited me better.

I disagree with EvanF on this one. Actual dating apps behaved very differently for me.

The good behaviour lasted right until the trial ended, and then whether the algorithm is doing anything useful changed.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect whether the filters survive a refresh to be the limiting factor on the app.

Does anyone know whether actual dating apps changed this recently?

One correction: on the platform, whether the algorithm is doing anything useful is not what people assume.

Where that one stands or falls is whether the moderation is real or decorative.

Turning off read receipts made the site far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether the ratio is workable in your area.

My rule for that one now is simple: check how many obvious fakes survive a week on day one.

Out of roughly 80 matches on actual dating apps, 2 turned into an actual conversation.

The short checklist I use before trusting anything like actual dating apps:

  • Whether the actual dating apps match count moves when you widen the radius
  • Whether actual dating apps shows you who has actually read a message

Your mileage on actual dating apps will vary by city more than by anything else.

Agree with NicoleG, though actual dating apps was a bit worse in my case.

The most useful filter on the app was recent activity, not distance, and it changed whether the filters survive a refresh completely.

Before committing time to the service, work out how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

I gave actual dating apps about 3 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching how usable it is one-handed on a phone.

Is actual dating apps still like this, or has it improved?

Anything I recommend around actual dating apps has to clear one bar, which is how precise the filters really are.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked Datebound if you want a smaller pool.

I kept notes for a month on it because I kept losing track of whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

Provided whether the interface gets in the way holds up, that one is a reasonable place to start.

Someone in another thread pointed me at Luvdate's free tier and it was a fair shout.
