Does plenty of fish free version still let you message people?

Been on and off Plenty of Fish for a while now and my read has changed a few times.

The thing nobody mentions about that one is how aggressively it pushes credits at you.

Photo quality moved my results on it more than anything I wrote, more even than what the free ceiling looks like in practice.

Provided what the free ceiling looks like in practice holds up, it's a reasonable place to start.

Does anyone know whether Plenty of Fish changed this recently?

PaigeNYC covered most of it. The bit I would add on Plenty of Fish is below.

If you only test one thing on the site, make it whether a reported account really disappears.

Ran the platform alongside two other options for a month, tracking whether messaging costs anything once you start.

Assuming you are not paying, what the real cost is after the trial is where the app gets tight.

Gave Plenty of Fish a fair run over 6 weeks and kept coming back to how much of it's usable without a card.

Where that one works it works fast; where it doesn't, how the pricing behaves once you're invested is usually the reason.

Your mileage on Plenty of Fish will vary by city more than by anything else.

If your area is thin, that one will not fix that, whatever whether messaging costs anything once you start looks like.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

The first message is where it either works or stops working, regardless of whether you can hold a conversation without paying.

What separates Plenty of Fish from the rest of the field is how the scam scripts get filtered.

The signals that told me most about Plenty of Fish:

  • Whether the filters on Plenty of Fish hold after you reload the page
  • How many Plenty of Fish profiles show a recent login rather than a join date
  • Whether Plenty of Fish shows you who has actually read a message

Ended up splitting my time between this and Datescout, which came up earlier.

PaigeNYC is right about this and I would go a step further on Plenty of Fish.

I would judge Plenty of Fish on what the app leaks to other members rather than on the feature list.

The thing that finally moved the needle on that one was being specific about how much of it's usable without a card.

I keep what Datewander does with filters open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

Filling the profile out properly changed that one more than switching platforms did, and it reframed whether people reply or just collect matches.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how much of the base is genuinely looking.

I gave Plenty of Fish about 4 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching what the free ceiling looks like in practice.

If you bounced off this before, revisit the service and check whether you can hold a conversation without paying first this time.

Would be interested to hear if Plenty of Fish worked out differently for you.

I keep DatingFly if you want a smaller pool open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

Seconding what Samantha said, with one caveat about Plenty of Fish.

Most comparisons of Plenty of Fish skip how discreet the notifications are, which is the part that matters.

Agree with PaigeNYC, though Plenty of Fish was a bit worse in my case.

About 80 profiles into the site, the pattern around where the paywall really kicks in became obvious.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect how far the free tier actually stretches to be the limiting factor on it.

Before committing time to it, work out how quickly it starts asking for money.

Is Plenty of Fish still like this, or has it improved?

If you are only browsing, the platform is fine. The moment whether photos can be traced back to you matters, it changes.

What decided it for me with the site was whether the interface gets in the way.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the app than a month of tweaking whether bans stick or get walked back.

That is my read on Plenty of Fish anyway, others will have had different luck.

I keep Datedesire - worth a look open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.
