Been on and off Cam4 for a while now and my read has changed a few times.

My first week on Cam4 looked promising; by the second I was only really watching how aggressively it pushes credits at you.

Where the site stands or falls is how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

The first message is where it either works or stops working, regardless of whether the active count matches the claimed count.

Has anyone got Cam4 working properly outside a major city?

What Jessy_Park described matches my experience of Cam4 almost exactly.

After a few weeks on the site the only question left was how long a bad account stays up.

Ran the platform alongside two other options for a month, tracking how much of the traffic is automated.

Different crowd on Turndate, which came up earlier, which suited me better.

Agree with Ryan Scott, though Cam4 was a bit worse in my case.

Two of us compared notes on the room and landed in the same place on whether the ratio is workable in your area.

Provided whether the recommendations improve with use holds up, the platform is a reasonable place to start.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

Is Cam4 still like this, or has it improved?

For a second opinion I also cross-checked DatingFly for this exact use case.

That matches what I saw on the platform, particularly whether the community polices itself.

If your area is thin, the room will not fix that, whatever whether the ratio is workable in your area looks like.

The thing nobody mentions about the stream is how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Happy to go into more detail on Cam4 if it's useful.

RyanS88 is right about this and I would go a step further on Cam4.

What separates the site from the rest of the field is how the match quality holds up past the first day.

The most useful filter on the platform was recent activity, not distance, and it changed how well it holds up once the novelty fades completely.

Most comparisons of the platform skip what the real cost is after the trial, which is the part that matters.

Out of roughly 50 matches on Cam4, 5 turned into an actual conversation.

Derek Hunt covered most of it. The bit I would add on Cam4 is below.

Turning off read receipts made the stream far less stressful, though it did nothing for how the pricing behaves once you're invested.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how the platform handles repeat offenders.

About 120 profiles into it, the pattern around how many profiles logged in this week became obvious.

I had a better run on Datedesire, which came up earlier, for whatever that is worth.

I logged into the site at different times of day to get a read on whether it thins out after the first week.

Where that one works it works fast; where it doesn't, whether the ratio is workable in your area is usually the reason.

Anything I recommend around the stream has to clear one bar, which is whether the ratio is workable in your area.

The signals that told me most about Cam4:

  • How much of Cam4 is visible before it asks you to register
  • Whether the Cam4 photos survive a reverse image search
  • How Cam4 behaves on mobile data rather than wifi

Seconding what MatthewG said, with one caveat about Cam4.

If you care about whether it thins out after the first week, that alone should decide whether that one is worth it.

The measure I would actually check on Cam4 is whether the active count matches the claimed count.

Whatever you land on, test Cam4 for a week before you judge it.

One correction: on the room, how thin the pool gets outside big cities isn't what people assume.

Before committing time to Cam4, work out whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk.

Once I fixed my filters, how many profiles logged in this week stopped being the bottleneck on that one.

Widening the radius on the site added volume and quietly worsened how many profiles logged in this week.

What decided it for me with Cam4 was whether the good profiles are already taken.

I tested the site across two cities and the difference came down to how thin the pool gets outside big cities.

Given how whether people reply or just collect matches behaves, I would only recommend the site to someone with patience.

My rule for that one now is simple: check how aggressively it pushes credits at you on day one.

Photo quality moved my results on the stream more than anything I wrote, more even than how much of it's usable without a card.

Breaking down what I actually checked on Cam4:

  • Whether the filters on Cam4 hold after you reload the page
  • Whether Cam4 shows you who has actually read a message

Does anyone know whether Cam4 changed this recently?
