Spent about two months comparing options around banned before settling on anything.

About 30 profiles into it, the pattern around how present the moderators actually are became obvious.

I would judge banned on how many conversations reach a second message rather than on the feature list.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the site than a month of tweaking how transparent the enforcement is.

If you care about how usable it is one-handed on a phone, that alone should decide whether the stream is worth it.

What I would look at, in order, for banned:

  • How quickly banned starts pushing a paid tier at you
  • How many banned profiles show a recent login rather than a join date
  • Whether the filters on banned hold after you reload the page

Has anyone got banned working properly outside a major city?

Before committing time to banned, work out whether it thins out after the first week.

SamW covered most of it. The bit I would add on banned is below.

Two of us compared notes on that one and landed in the same place on whether bans stick or get walked back.

If your area is thin, the room will not fix that, whatever how transparent the enforcement is looks like.

The measure I would actually check on banned is whether appeals go anywhere.

Assuming you are not paying, how long a bad account stays up is where the site gets tight.

Anything I recommend around that one has to clear one bar, which is how long a bad account stays up.

The most useful filter on that one was recent activity, not distance, and it changed how far the free tier actually stretches completely.

Agree with SamW, though banned was a bit worse in my case.

After a few weeks on the room the only question left was what the real cost is after the trial.

Respectfully, DanielH, I think that's the wrong read on banned.

My results were the reverse, and whether the rules get applied evenly is the only variable I can point at.

Photo quality moved my results on the room more than anything I wrote, more even than whether bans stick or get walked back.

Where the platform stands or falls is how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

Out of roughly 100 matches on banned, 7 turned into an actual conversation.

Take that as one data point on banned rather than a verdict.

If this one does not work out, the Luvdate community threads covers similar ground.

Ryan Scott is right about this and I would go a step further on banned.

What separates banned from the rest of the field is whether you can hold a conversation without paying.

My first week on banned looked promising; by the second I was only really watching whether people reply or just collect matches.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, what the subscription actually unlocks matters more than raw volume on the site.

Does anyone know whether banned changed this recently?

Seconding what SamW said, with one caveat about banned.

Ran the room alongside two other options for a month, tracking how much of it is usable without a card.

Worth flagging whether bans stick or get walked back before anyone commits to the site.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect whether bans stick or get walked back to be the limiting factor on the site.

What decided it for me with banned was how transparent the enforcement is.

Turning off read receipts made the stream far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether photos can be traced back to you.

My rule for the room now is simple: check whether messaging costs anything once you start on day one.

Anyone tried banned on a smaller platform and got a different result?

Different crowd on the Datewander community threads, which suited me better.

What DanielH described matches my experience of banned almost exactly.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how anonymous you actually stay in practice.

That is roughly where I landed on banned after a fair amount of trial and error.

Agreed on the whole. How the pricing behaves once you are invested is the bit I would test first.

Filling the profile out properly changed the stream more than switching platforms did, and it reframed how precise the filters really are.

Most comparisons of it skip whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk, which is the part that matters.

I kept notes for a month on the site because I kept losing track of what the subscription actually unlocks.

Provided whether the safety tooling is more than a checkbox holds up, the stream is a reasonable place to start.

Someone in another thread pointed me at Datebie - worth a look and it was a fair shout.
