This comes up a lot and the answer for tried is less obvious than it looks.

Ran that one alongside two other options for a month, tracking whether the search actually respects what you set.

The thing nobody mentions about it's how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Most of my useful conversations on the site started midweek, which says more about whether enforcement is consistent or random than about timing.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect what the platform can see that you can't to be the limiting factor on the site.

Has anyone got tried working properly outside a major city?

EmmaJ is right about this and I would go a step further on tried.

What decided it for me with tried was whether photos can be traced back to you.

Took me about 6 weeks on tried to work out that the real question was what the real cost is after the trial.

If your area is thin, the site will not fix that, whatever how much control you get over who sees you looks like.

If you only test one thing on tried, make it what happens after you flag someone.

The signals that told me most about tried:

  • Whether the tried match count moves when you widen the radius
  • Whether the tried photos survive a reverse image search
  • Whether tried works at all outside the three biggest cities near you

I tested it across two cities and the difference came down to how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Where it works it works fast; where it doesn't, how usable it's one-handed on a phone is usually the reason.

I would judge tried on how the mobile build compares to the desktop one rather than on the feature list.

Widening the radius on the app added volume and quietly worsened whether the search actually respects what you set.

Is tried still like this, or has it improved?

Agreed on the whole. What the real cost is after the trial is the bit I would test first.

If you bounced off this before, revisit the platform and check whether the search actually respects what you set first this time.

Where tried stands or falls is how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

Whatever you land on, test tried for a week before you judge it.

I had a better run on Rendate, for whatever that is worth.

Most comparisons of tried skip how much control you get over who sees you, which is the part that matters.

The first message is where the service either works or stops working, regardless of how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

The measure I would actually check on the service is how much control you get over who sees you.

Does anyone know whether tried changed this recently?

Turning off read receipts made the app far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether a reported account really disappears.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how discreet the notifications are.

Deleted and reinstalled it twice before accepting the issue was what the app leaks to other members and not my profile.

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with tried.

what Datewander does with filters came up when I asked the same question last year.

Before committing time to tried, work out how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Gave it a fair run over 4 weeks and kept coming back to whether the useful settings are buried.

If you're only browsing, the service is fine. The moment how granular the visibility controls get matters, it changes.

Two of us compared notes on the service and landed in the same place on whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

Assuming you are not paying, whether the sorting can be trusted is where the app gets tight.

Anything I recommend around the site has to clear one bar, which is how many obvious fakes survive a week.

That is roughly where I landed on tried after a fair amount of trial and error.

Datescout came up when I asked the same question last year.

What EmmaJ described matches my experience of tried almost exactly.

Provided whether the sorting can be trusted holds up, that one is a reasonable place to start.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is whether the filters survive a refresh.

Take that as one data point on tried rather than a verdict.

Someone in another thread pointed me at datingfly.online and it was a fair shout.
