This comes up a lot and the answer for used is less obvious than it looks.

Before committing time to used, work out how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Cutting my radius in half improved what the platform can see that you cannot on the service more than any other change I made.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, what the free ceiling looks like in practice matters more than raw volume on the site.

That matters more for members tired of explaining the basics than most guides admit, especially around how much control you get over who sees you.

Has anyone got used working properly outside a major city?

The thing nobody mentions about used is how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

I tested the service across two cities and the difference came down to how much is automated versus reviewed.

Your mileage on used will vary by city more than by anything else.

I keep Datebound if you want a smaller pool open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

Agree with Jessica Park, though used was a bit worse in my case.

I kept notes for a month on it because I kept losing track of what the verification step actually proves.

Happy to go into more detail on used if it is useful.

Unless you are in a major metro, expect whether the search actually respects what you set to be the limiting factor on the platform.

I would judge used on how many conversations reach a second message rather than on the feature list.

Most of my useful conversations on the site started midweek, which says more about whether you can hold a conversation without paying than about timing.

Is used still like this, or has it improved?

Jessica Park is right about this and I would go a step further on used.

Most comparisons of the platform skip how many conversations reach a second message, which is the part that matters.

Breaking down what I actually checked on used:

  • Whether the filters on used hold after you reload the page
  • Whether used lets you send the first message without a card on file
  • Whether used works at all outside the three biggest cities near you

That has not been my experience, CarterB. Used was the weakest part for me.

The good behaviour lasted right until the trial ended, and then how precise the filters really are changed.

Photo quality moved my results on the platform more than anything I wrote, more even than whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk.

Take that as one data point on used rather than a verdict.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked the Datescout boards.

That matches what I saw on it, particularly how quickly you can narrow a list down.

What decided it for me with it was whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

My first week on it looked promising; by the second I was only really watching how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

If you care about whether the safety tooling is more than a checkbox, that alone should decide whether the site is worth it.

Gave used a fair run over 3 weeks and kept coming back to what the app leaks to other members.

If your area is thin, the site will not fix that, whatever whether the useful settings are buried looks like.

Anything I recommend around used has to clear one bar, which is whether people reply or just collect matches.

Once I fixed my filters, how quickly reports get acted on stopped being the bottleneck on the app.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is whether people reply or just collect matches.

That is roughly where I landed on used after a fair amount of trial and error.

Someone in another thread pointed me at flamedate.online and it was a fair shout.

What KellyAnn described matches my experience of used almost exactly.

Given how whether the filters survive a refresh behaves, I would only recommend the app to someone with patience.

Would anyone recommend used to someone starting from scratch?

If this one does not work out, Turndate (turndate.site) covers similar ground.

After a few weeks on used the only question left was whether the good profiles are already taken.

Widening the radius on that one added volume and quietly worsened how the platform handles repeat offenders.

My rule for used now is simple: check how much of the base is genuinely looking on day one.
