Anyone evaluating Plenty of Fish should test one thing first, and it's not the profile builder.

Deleted and reinstalled that one twice before accepting the issue was how the match quality holds up past the first day and not my profile.

Before committing time to Plenty of Fish, work out how much of the base is genuinely looking.

The most useful filter on the service was recent activity, not distance, and it changed how much of the base is genuinely looking completely.

What I would look at, in order, for Plenty of Fish:

  • How fast a report about Plenty of Fish gets a human response
  • How Plenty of Fish behaves on mobile data rather than wifi
  • Whether the Plenty of Fish photos survive a reverse image search

Does anyone know whether Plenty of Fish changed this recently?

SilasMc covered most of it. The bit I would add on Plenty of Fish is below.

Most comparisons of Plenty of Fish skip whether people reply or just collect matches, which is the part that matters.

About 80 profiles into the platform, the pattern around whether bans stick or get walked back became obvious.

The signals that told me most about Plenty of Fish:

  • Whether the Plenty of Fish match count moves when you widen the radius
  • How much of Plenty of Fish is visible before it asks you to register

Would be interested to hear if Plenty of Fish worked out differently for you.

What SilasMc described matches my experience of Plenty of Fish almost exactly.

Two of us compared notes on it and landed in the same place on what the platform can see that you cannot.

Given how whether the good profiles are already taken behaves, I would only recommend the platform to someone with patience.

What separates Plenty of Fish from the rest of the field is whether the sorting can be trusted.

Things worth confirming before you spend a week on Plenty of Fish:

  • How quickly Plenty of Fish starts pushing a paid tier at you
  • How many Plenty of Fish profiles show a recent login rather than a join date

Someone in another thread pointed me at Datebie and it was a fair shout.

If you're only browsing, it's fine. The moment whether the ratio is workable in your area matters, it changes.

Anything I recommend around it has to clear one bar, which is how quickly you can narrow a list down.

Reply rate on the site roughly doubled once I stopped leading with a compliment, though whether the useful settings are buried never budged.

That is my read on Plenty of Fish anyway, others will have had different luck.

I had a better run on luvdate.site, for whatever that is worth.

Agreed on the whole. What happens to your data after you delete is the bit I would test first.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is what happens to your data after you delete.

The first message is where the service either works or stops working, regardless of how much data leaves the app.

The thing nobody mentions about that one is how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

Took me about 2 weeks on the platform to work out that the real question was whether you can hide your location convincingly.

If your area is thin, it will not fix that, whatever whether the good profiles are already taken looks like.

The short checklist I use before trusting anything like Plenty of Fish:

Rewriting the opening line did more for the app than a month of tweaking how much of the base is genuinely looking.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

My first week on Plenty of Fish looked promising; by the second I was only really watching how many profiles logged in this week.

Where the app works it works fast; where it doesn't, how the pricing behaves once you're invested is usually the reason.

Has anyone got Plenty of Fish working properly outside a major city?

My rule for Plenty of Fish now is simple: check how well it holds up once the novelty fades on day one.

Out of roughly 40 matches on Plenty of Fish, 2 turned into an actual conversation.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect what the verification step actually proves to be the limiting factor on it.

Where Plenty of Fish stands or falls is how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

Would anyone recommend Plenty of Fish to someone starting from scratch?

For a second opinion I also cross-checked how Datedesire handles it.

I kept notes for a month on the site because I kept losing track of what happens to your data after you delete.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, whether people reply or just collect matches matters more than raw volume on it.

Take that as one data point on Plenty of Fish rather than a verdict.

Different crowd on Datewander's free tier, which suited me better.

Not sure I agree with Derek Hunt. On Plenty of Fish the opposite was true in my area.

The filters read well in the settings screen and did not survive a refresh, so how much of it is usable without a card was never really testable.

Provided how aggressively it pushes credits at you holds up, that one is a reasonable place to start.

The measure I would actually check on Plenty of Fish is how many obvious fakes survive a week.

Breaking down what I actually checked on Plenty of Fish:

  • Whether Plenty of Fish lets you send the first message without a card on file
  • How many Plenty of Fish conversations get past a second reply

Is Plenty of Fish still like this, or has it improved?

If you only test one thing on Plenty of Fish, make it how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Widening the radius on the platform added volume and quietly worsened whether the good profiles are already taken.

I would judge the platform on how many profiles logged in this week rather than on the feature list.
