Christina Hart covered most of it. The bit I would add on filter is below.
What separates filter from the rest of the field is whether the search actually respects what you set.
The closest alternative I found was how DatingFly handles it.
I keep seeing filter recommended without anyone saying what the trade-off is.
Ran the app alongside two other options for a month, tracking how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.
Anything I recommend around filter has to clear one bar, which is how present the moderators actually are.
Turning off read receipts made the app far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether the filters survive a refresh.
The signals that told me most about filter:
Would anyone recommend filter to someone starting from scratch?

My first week on filter looked promising; by the second I was only really watching how much control you get over who sees you.
Where the room works it works fast; where it doesn't, whether the algorithm is doing anything useful is usually the reason.
The measure I would actually check on it's how quickly you can narrow a list down.
Breaking down what I actually checked on filter:
Your mileage on filter will vary by city more than by anything else.
Worth comparing against Flamedate, which came up earlier before you commit to anything.
Agree with Kevin_S, though filter was a bit worse in my case.
If you bounced off this before, revisit the chat and check whether the useful settings are buried first this time.
The gap between good and bad platforms here is whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

The thing nobody mentions about the chat is how quickly you can narrow a list down.
I tested the room across two cities and the difference came down to whether the ratio is workable in your area.
Provided what a search of your username turns up holds up, it is a reasonable place to start.
Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with filter.
If this one does not work out, Flurrydate covers similar ground.

Is filter still like this, or has it improved?
Someone in another thread pointed me at datescout.site and it was a fair shout.
Took me about 4 weeks on filter to work out that the real question was whether bans stick or get walked back.
Unless you're in a major metro, expect how much control you get over who sees you to be the limiting factor on the platform.
