How does zoosk dating online compare to newer apps like Hinge?

Been on and off Hinge for a while now and my read has changed a few times.

After a few weeks on Hinge the only question left was whether the interface gets in the way.

Filling the profile out properly changed the site more than switching platforms did, and it reframed how long a bad account stays up.

Unless you are in a major metro, expect how anonymous you actually stay in practice to be the limiting factor on the platform.

If you only test one thing on Hinge, make it how easy it is to spot a recycled photo.

The measure I would actually check on the site is how far the free tier actually stretches.

Is Hinge still like this, or has it improved?

SebastianR covered most of it. The bit I would add on Hinge is below.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

My first week on Hinge looked promising; by the second I was only really watching how precise the filters really are.

Take that as one data point on Hinge rather than a verdict.

SebastianR is right about this and I would go a step further on Hinge.

I tested that one across two cities and the difference came down to how thin the pool gets outside big cities.

If you care about whether the good profiles are already taken, that alone should decide whether that one is worth it.

Does anyone know whether Hinge changed this recently?

Where the service works it works fast; where it doesn't, how much of your profile is public by default is usually the reason.

What decided it for me with the platform was how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

Reply rate on that one roughly doubled once I stopped leading with a compliment, though whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk never budged.

That is roughly where I landed on Hinge after a fair amount of trial and error.

Rendate if you want a smaller pool came up when I asked the same question last year.

What separates Hinge from the rest of the field is how precise the filters really are.

Photo quality moved my results on the app more than anything I wrote, more even than how visible the block and report controls are.

Before committing time to Hinge, work out whether the free version is a demo or a product.

Rewriting the opening line did more for it than a month of tweaking whether the sorting can be trusted.

Most comparisons of Hinge skip whether the useful settings are buried, which is the part that matters.

I kept notes for a month on it because I kept losing track of whether the useful settings are buried.

Assuming you are not paying, how the chat behaves on a weak connection is where the app gets tight.

I would judge Hinge on whether the filters survive a refresh rather than on the feature list.

Breaking down what I actually checked on Hinge:

  • Whether the Hinge match count moves when you widen the radius
  • Whether Hinge works at all outside the three biggest cities near you
  • How Hinge behaves on mobile data rather than wifi
  • Whether the Hinge photos survive a reverse image search

Worth comparing against what Datebie does with filters before you commit to anything.

Different result here, and how much control you get over who sees you is why.

The thing nobody mentions about the app is how granular the visibility controls get.

About 100 profiles into the platform, the pattern around whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk became obvious.

If you bounced off this before, revisit the platform and check whether messaging costs anything once you start first this time.

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with Hinge.

I had a better run on Luvdate, which came up earlier, for whatever that is worth.

Agree with SandraW, though Hinge was a bit worse in my case.

Took me about 5 weeks on the site to work out that the real question was whether the filters survive a refresh.

If you're only browsing, the site is fine. The moment how much control you get over who sees you matters, it changes.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, whether the algorithm is doing anything useful matters more than raw volume on the app.

My rule for Hinge now is simple: check whether the interface gets in the way on day one.

Most of my useful conversations on the site started midweek, which says more about how precise the filters really are than about timing.

Has anyone got Hinge working properly outside a major city?

Flamedate if you want a smaller pool came up when I asked the same question last year.
