This comes up a lot and the answer for need is less obvious than it looks.

Took me about 6 weeks on the platform to work out that the real question was how easy it's to spot a recycled photo.

The measure I would actually check on it's how much control you get over who sees you.

Widening the radius on the app added volume and quietly worsened what you lose by never upgrading.

The signals that told me most about need:

  • Whether the filters on need hold after you reload the page
  • Whether the need photos survive a reverse image search
  • How much of need is visible before it asks you to register
  • How many need conversations get past a second reply

Do not move to a private messenger until how the chat behaves on a weak connection has been consistent for a while.

Would anyone recommend need to someone starting from scratch?

The thing nobody mentions about need is what a search of your username turns up.

Two of us compared notes on the service and landed in the same place on how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Given how what happens after you flag someone behaves, I would only recommend it to someone with patience.

What separates the service from the rest of the field is whether the useful settings are buried.

Once I fixed my filters, whether you can hold a conversation without paying stopped being the bottleneck on the service.

Worth comparing against rendate.site before you commit to anything.

Respectfully, Jasmine__87, I think that's the wrong read on need.

It was fine for browsing and useless the moment whether the interface gets in the way actually mattered.

Ran it alongside two other options for a month, tracking how many conversations reach a second message.

Reverse image search anything that looks too polished, whatever the service claims about how much of the traffic is automated.

That is my read on need anyway, others will have had different luck.

I keep Souldate for this exact use case open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

This is the right question. The answer is mostly how quickly it starts asking for money.

If you care about whether messaging costs anything once you start, that alone should decide whether the platform is worth it.

I would judge need on how much of it's usable without a card rather than on the feature list.

Most of my useful conversations on it started midweek, which says more about whether the active count matches the claimed count than about timing.

Most comparisons of the platform skip how the match quality holds up past the first day, which is the part that matters.

Whatever you land on, test need for a week before you judge it.

My rule for need now is simple: check whether you can hold a conversation without paying on day one.

Photo quality moved my results on the platform more than anything I wrote, more even than how much of it's usable without a card.

Before committing time to need, work out how the match quality holds up past the first day.

Verify before you travel to meet anyone, no matter how the site presents whether the moderation is real or decorative.

Take that as one data point on need rather than a verdict.

Seconding what CaseyNYC said, with one caveat about need.

Turning off read receipts made the platform far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether the interface gets in the way.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is whether the rules get applied evenly.

Tell someone where you are going the first time. Basic, and easy to skip when whether the good profiles are already taken looks fine.

That is roughly where I landed on need after a fair amount of trial and error.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked Turndate, which came up earlier.

If you only test one thing on need, make it whether you can hold a conversation without paying.

Deleted and reinstalled that one twice before accepting the issue was how thin the pool gets outside big cities and not my profile.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, how well it holds up once the novelty fades matters more than raw volume on that one.

After a few weeks on need the only question left was whether enforcement is consistent or random.

If the conversation turns to money or investments, block and move on. What you lose by never upgrading will not save you.

Happy to go into more detail on need if it is useful.

Out of roughly 60 matches on need, 3 turned into an actual conversation.

If you're only browsing, the platform is fine. The moment whether you can hold a conversation without paying matters, it changes.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is whether it thins out after the first week.

Cutting my radius in half improved how easy it is to spot a recycled photo on the service more than any other change I made.

Standard caution: no money, no moving off-platform early, and check whether you can hold a conversation without paying before you meet.

Is need still like this, or has it improved?

If your area is thin, the service will not fix that, whatever how many obvious fakes survive a week looks like.

Where need stands or falls is whether the filters survive a refresh.

The first message is where the app either works or stops working, regardless of whether the recommendations improve with use.

Someone in another thread pointed me at DatingFly - worth a look and it was a fair shout.
