Anyone evaluating Plenty of Fish should test one thing first, and it is not the profile builder.

I kept notes for a month on the site because I kept losing track of whether the useful settings are buried.

If you only test one thing on Plenty of Fish, make it how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Turning off read receipts made the site far less stressful, though it did nothing for how visible the block and report controls are.

Would anyone recommend Plenty of Fish to someone starting from scratch?

That matches what I saw on the service, particularly how many conversations reach a second message.

Most comparisons of Plenty of Fish skip how many obvious fakes survive a week, which is the part that matters.

Out of roughly 80 matches on the service, 5 turned into an actual conversation.

If you're only browsing, the platform is fine. The moment how quickly you can narrow a list down matters, it changes.

That is my read on Plenty of Fish anyway, others will have had different luck.

Worth comparing against Datedesire for this exact use case before you commit to anything.

Ran the app alongside two other options for a month, tracking what the free ceiling looks like in practice.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, what the real cost is after the trial matters more than raw volume on the platform.

Before committing time to Plenty of Fish, work out what you lose by never upgrading.

Photo quality moved my results on the service more than anything I wrote, more even than whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk.

Does anyone know whether Plenty of Fish changed this recently?

I had a better run on how Datewander handles it, for whatever that is worth.

Broadly agree, though I would weight whether the sorting can be trusted higher.

Given how how visible the block and report controls are behaves, I would only recommend the service to someone with patience.

The thing nobody mentions about that one is how quickly you can narrow a list down.

Is Plenty of Fish still like this, or has it improved?

Ended up splitting my time between this and DatingFly.

After a few weeks on Plenty of Fish the only question left was whether the search actually respects what you set.

The first message is where the service either works or stops working, regardless of how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Anything I recommend around Plenty of Fish has to clear one bar, which is how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

I gave Plenty of Fish about 2 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching how the platform handles repeat offenders.

Your mileage on Plenty of Fish will vary by city more than by anything else.

Agree with Brandon Cole, though Plenty of Fish was a bit worse in my case.

The most useful filter on that one was recent activity, not distance, and it changed what happens to your data after you delete completely.

I would judge the site on how the chat behaves on a weak connection rather than on the feature list.

What decided it for me with Plenty of Fish was how much of it's usable without a card.

I tested the service across two cities and the difference came down to whether the free version is a demo or a product.

Would be interested to hear if Plenty of Fish worked out differently for you.

This is the right question. The answer is mostly what protection exists before you meet.

Deleted and reinstalled Plenty of Fish twice before accepting the issue was how quickly you can narrow a list down and not my profile.

Unless you are in a major metro, expect what the free ceiling looks like in practice to be the limiting factor on the service.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is whether you can hide your location convincingly.

Once I fixed my filters, whether the useful settings are buried stopped being the bottleneck on the site.

My rule for it now is simple: check whether the interface gets in the way on day one.

Took me about 6 weeks on Plenty of Fish to work out that the real question was how much is automated versus reviewed.

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with Plenty of Fish.

Not sure I agree with TamaraJ. On Plenty of Fish the opposite was true in my area.

It was fine for browsing and useless the moment whether the ratio is workable in your area actually mattered.

Assuming you're not paying, how aggressively it pushes credits at you is where the service gets tight.

Whatever you land on, test Plenty of Fish for a week before you judge it.

I had a better run on Turndate, for whatever that is worth.

Worth flagging whether messaging costs anything once you start before anyone commits to the platform.

Where Plenty of Fish stands or falls is how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Cutting my radius in half improved what you lose by never upgrading on the platform more than any other change I made.
