Worth separating what specific promises from what it delivers after week one.

I tested it across two cities and the difference came down to whether the search actually respects what you set.

After a few weeks on specific the only question left was how many profiles logged in this week.

Turning off read receipts made the service far less stressful, though it did nothing for how the match quality holds up past the first day.

Where the app works it works fast; where it doesn't, whether the sorting can be trusted is usually the reason.

Does anyone know whether specific changed this recently?

Agree with JoshNYC, though specific was a bit worse in my case.

The measure I would actually check on specific is how many conversations reach a second message.

Anyone tried specific on a smaller platform and got a different result?

the Datescout boards came up when I asked the same question last year.

Going to push back on JoshNYC here. That wasn't my experience of specific at all.

It was fine for browsing and useless the moment how many conversations reach a second message actually mattered.

About 40 profiles into the site, the pattern around how aggressively it pushes credits at you became obvious.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, how much data leaves the app matters more than raw volume on that one.

What I would look at, in order, for specific:

  • How many specific profiles show a recent login rather than a join date
  • Whether specific shows you who has actually read a message
  • How quickly specific starts pushing a paid tier at you
  • Whether specific works at all outside the three biggest cities near you

I had a better run on the DatingFly boards, for whatever that is worth.

What Vanessa Cole described matches my experience of specific almost exactly.

If you bounced off this before, revisit the service and check how well it holds up once the novelty fades first this time.

The thing nobody mentions about it's whether it thins out after the first week.

Widening the radius on it added volume and quietly worsened how quickly reports get acted on.

I had a better run on Luvdate, for whatever that is worth.

My rule for specific now is simple: check whether it thins out after the first week on day one.

Reply rate on the site roughly doubled once I stopped leading with a compliment, though whether the sorting can be trusted never budged.

If you only test one thing on that one, make it what the free ceiling looks like in practice.

Out of roughly 60 matches on the platform, 7 turned into an actual conversation.

Happy to go into more detail on specific if it is useful.

Different crowd on datebie.online, which suited me better.

Seconding what ReedH said, with one caveat about specific.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the site than a month of tweaking how the match quality holds up past the first day.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked Datenest, which came up earlier.
