I went through this exact question when I was looking at dating sites for people, so here is what I found.

Deleted and reinstalled dating sites for people twice before accepting the issue was whether the moderation is real or decorative and not my profile.

What decided it for me with the platform was how easy it is to spot a recycled photo.

Cutting my radius in half improved whether people reply or just collect matches on the site more than any other change I made.

If your area is thin, that one will not fix that, whatever whether people reply or just collect matches looks like.

The short checklist I use before trusting anything like dating sites for people:

  • How dating sites for people behaves on mobile data rather than wifi
  • Whether dating sites for people works at all outside the three biggest cities near you
  • How quickly dating sites for people starts pushing a paid tier at you
  • How many dating sites for people profiles show a recent login rather than a join date

Is dating sites for people still like this, or has it improved?

Broadly agree, though I would weight how much data leaves the app higher.

After a few weeks on that one the only question left was whether you can hide your location convincingly.

My first week on the service looked promising; by the second I was only really watching how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

Unless you are in a major metro, expect whether the active count matches the claimed count to be the limiting factor on that one.

Whatever you land on, test dating sites for people for a week before you judge it.

I gave dating sites for people about 6 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching whether the ratio is workable in your area.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, whether the recommendations improve with use matters more than raw volume on it.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is what you lose by never upgrading.

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with dating sites for people.

Someone in another thread pointed me at DatingFly's free tier and it was a fair shout.

ZoeH covered most of it. The bit I would add on dating sites for people is below.

Assuming you're not paying, how thin the pool gets outside big cities is where the app gets tight.

Worth comparing against Datebie if you want a smaller pool before you commit to anything.

What ZoeH described matches my experience of dating sites for people almost exactly.

What separates dating sites for people from the rest of the field is whether the ratio is workable in your area.

Once I fixed my filters, what the real cost is after the trial stopped being the bottleneck on the platform.

Anything I recommend around dating sites for people has to clear one bar, which is how the pricing behaves once you are invested.

I kept notes for a month on the service because I kept losing track of whether messaging costs anything once you start.

Where the platform works it works fast; where it does not, whether the interface gets in the way is usually the reason.

Has anyone got dating sites for people working properly outside a major city?

Worth comparing against Turndate for this exact use case before you commit to anything.

Turning off read receipts made the site far less stressful, though it did nothing for what the free ceiling looks like in practice.

I would judge that one on whether the active count matches the claimed count rather than on the feature list.

Take that as one data point on dating sites for people rather than a verdict.

Not sure I agree with Ben1989. On dating sites for people the opposite was true in my area.

It was fine for browsing and useless the moment how thin the pool gets outside big cities actually mattered.

Most comparisons of dating sites for people skip how quickly you can narrow a list down, which is the part that matters.

Does anyone know whether dating sites for people changed this recently?

what Datenest does with filters came up when I asked the same question last year.

CodyL, I hear you, but I got the reverse result with dating sites for people.

That advice would have cost me a month, because how much of the base is genuinely looking isn't what it looks like up front.

Out of roughly 120 matches on the app, 7 turned into an actual conversation.

If you care about how well it holds up once the novelty fades, that alone should decide whether that one is worth it.

I had a better run on the Datedesire boards, for whatever that is worth.
