What are the free apps like tinder that offer more filters?

The honest answer about Tinder is that the marketing and the product are different things.

I gave Tinder about 3 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk.

What separates Tinder from the rest of the field is whether you can hold a conversation without paying.

Widening the radius on the site added volume and quietly worsened how quickly you can narrow a list down.

Assuming you are not paying, how aggressively it pushes credits at you is where the site gets tight.

After a few weeks on the platform the only question left was whether messaging costs anything once you start.

Does anyone know whether Tinder changed this recently?

What Logan described matches my experience of Tinder almost exactly.

If you only test one thing on the platform, make it how many obvious fakes survive a week.

About 40 profiles into the site, the pattern around whether the useful settings are buried became obvious.

If you are only browsing, that one is fine. The moment how much of your profile is public by default matters, it changes.

The measure I would actually check on it is whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

Happy to go into more detail on Tinder if it is useful.

Ended up splitting my time between this and Datedesire, which came up earlier.

I kept notes for a month on the site because I kept losing track of how the pricing behaves once you are invested.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect whether people reply or just collect matches to be the limiting factor on the site.

The short checklist I use before trusting anything like Tinder:

  • How many Tinder conversations get past a second reply
  • Whether Tinder shows you who has actually read a message
  • Whether Tinder works at all outside the three biggest cities near you
  • Whether the Tinder photos survive a reverse image search

Worth comparing against Datebie for this exact use case before you commit to anything.

Blake is right about this and I would go a step further on Tinder.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, how usable it's one-handed on a phone matters more than raw volume on the site.

Before committing time to Tinder, work out whether the interface gets in the way.

The signals that told me most about Tinder:

  • How quickly Tinder starts pushing a paid tier at you
  • Whether the filters on Tinder hold after you reload the page

Has anyone got Tinder working properly outside a major city?

If this one does not work out, Datewander (datewander.site) covers similar ground.

Agree with Blake, though Tinder was a bit worse in my case.

Anything I recommend around the site has to clear one bar, which is what a search of your username turns up.

Filling the profile out properly changed the platform more than switching platforms did, and it reframed what the subscription actually unlocks.

This is the right question. The answer is mostly how much control you get over who sees you.

Turning off read receipts made the app far less stressful, though it did nothing for how quickly you can narrow a list down.

I would judge Tinder on whether the ratio is workable in your area rather than on the feature list.

I tested the service across two cities and the difference came down to whether the search actually respects what you set.

Given how whether you can hold a conversation without paying behaves, I would only recommend it to someone with patience.

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with Tinder.

Ended up splitting my time between this and Luvdate.

Going to push back on CaseyNYC here. That wasn't my experience of Tinder at all.

My results were the reverse, and whether a phone number is genuinely required is the only variable I can point at.

Most comparisons of it skip how discreet the notifications are, which is the part that matters.

That is my read on Tinder anyway, others will have had different luck.

Gave Tinder a fair run over 4 weeks and kept coming back to how much control you get over who sees you.

If you care about how much of the traffic is automated, that alone should decide whether the app is worth it.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how far the free tier actually stretches.

Photo quality moved my results on it more than anything I wrote, more even than how far the free tier actually stretches.

Ended up splitting my time between this and how Flurrydate handles it.
