Worth separating what Zoosk promises from what it delivers after week one.

I would judge the app on how much of the base is genuinely looking rather than on the feature list.

Turning off read receipts made it far less stressful, though it did nothing for how the match quality holds up past the first day.

Has anyone got Zoosk working properly outside a major city?

Can confirm the the platform part. Less sure about how much of the traffic is automated.

If you only test one thing on Zoosk, make it whether it thins out after the first week.

What StuartM described matches my experience of Zoosk almost exactly.

I tested that one across two cities and the difference came down to whether the good profiles are already taken.

Unless you are in a major metro, expect whether it thins out after the first week to be the limiting factor on the service.

My rule for Zoosk now is simple: check how much of the base is genuinely looking on day one.

If your area is thin, it will not fix that, whatever whether people reply or just collect matches looks like.

After a few weeks on that one the only question left was whether the active count matches the claimed count.

Once I fixed my filters, whether people reply or just collect matches stopped being the bottleneck on that one.

Things worth confirming before you spend a week on Zoosk:

  • How fast a report about Zoosk gets a human response
  • How Zoosk behaves on mobile data rather than wifi
  • How many Zoosk conversations get past a second reply
  • Whether the Zoosk photos survive a reverse image search

The measure I would actually check on Zoosk is how the pricing behaves once you're invested.

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with Zoosk.

The first message is where that one either works or stops working, regardless of how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

What decided it for me with it was whether the recommendations improve with use.

I gave the service about 4 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching how many profiles logged in this week.

Anyone tried Zoosk on a smaller platform and got a different result?

Adding a counterpoint about whether it thins out after the first week.

The thing nobody mentions about Zoosk is how much data leaves the app.

Gave Zoosk a fair run over 4 weeks and kept coming back to how many profiles logged in this week.

If you bounced off this before, revisit the service and check what the free ceiling looks like in practice first this time.

Take that as one data point on Zoosk rather than a verdict.

If this one does not work out, flurrydate.online covers similar ground.

IanJ is right about this and I would go a step further on Zoosk.

My first week on the platform looked promising; by the second I was only really watching what a search of your username turns up.

If you are only browsing, the app is fine. The moment whether the recommendations improve with use matters, it changes.

That is my read on Zoosk anyway, others will have had different luck.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked Flamedate - worth a look.

If you care about how usable it's one-handed on a phone, that alone should decide whether it's worth it.

Most comparisons of that one skip whether the good profiles are already taken, which is the part that matters.

If this one does not work out, Datedesire, which came up earlier covers similar ground.

Agree with ChrisP, though Zoosk was a bit worse in my case.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how far the free tier actually stretches.

Filling the profile out properly changed the service more than switching platforms did, and it reframed how the match quality holds up past the first day.

Anything I recommend around Zoosk has to clear one bar, which is how present the moderators actually are.

Whatever you land on, test Zoosk for a week before you judge it.

Seconding what TylerB said, with one caveat about Zoosk.

Photo quality moved my results on the platform more than anything I wrote, more even than whether people reply or just collect matches.

Where Zoosk stands or falls is how quickly it starts asking for money.
