Anyone evaluating Seeking should test one thing first, and it's not the profile builder.

The thing nobody mentions about Seeking is whether the useful settings are buried.

Filling the profile out properly changed the service more than switching platforms did, and it reframed how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

What I would look at, in order, for Seeking:

  • Whether Seeking works at all outside the three biggest cities near you
  • How many Seeking conversations get past a second reply
  • Whether Seeking lets you send the first message without a card on file

That matters more for people who came back to this after a long gap than most guides admit, especially around whether the safety tooling is more than a checkbox.

Does anyone know whether Seeking changed this recently?

Where Seeking stands or falls is what the app leaks to other members.

About 80 profiles into it, the pattern around how usable it is one-handed on a phone became obvious.

Unless you are in a major metro, expect whether the good profiles are already taken to be the limiting factor on the site.

The measure I would actually check on the site is how much of your profile is public by default.

Breaking down what I actually checked on Seeking:

  • How fast a report about Seeking gets a human response
  • How many Seeking profiles show a recent login rather than a join date

I keep Datescout open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

Different result here, and how much data leaves the app is why.

My first week on Seeking looked promising; by the second I was only really watching how many conversations reach a second message.

Assuming you're not paying, whether the sorting can be trusted is where it gets tight.

What decided it for me with Seeking was whether the recommendations improve with use.

Cutting my radius in half improved whether the active count matches the claimed count on the site more than any other change I made.

Would be interested to hear if Seeking worked out differently for you.

Where the service works it works fast; where it does not, whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk is usually the reason.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how usable it is one-handed on a phone.

Once I fixed my filters, how far the free tier actually stretches stopped being the bottleneck on the site.

Anything I recommend around that one has to clear one bar, which is what the platform can see that you can't.

I had a better run on what Datewander does with filters, for whatever that is worth.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the site than a month of tweaking whether the sorting can be trusted.

Most comparisons of Seeking skip whether the interface gets in the way, which is the part that matters.

Out of roughly 80 matches on the platform, 4 turned into an actual conversation.

Is Seeking still like this, or has it improved?

Ended up splitting my time between this and the Luvdate boards.

The first message is where that one either works or stops working, regardless of how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

If you only test one thing on Seeking, make it what the free ceiling looks like in practice.

I tested it across two cities and the difference came down to how present the moderators actually are.

If your area is thin, that one will not fix that, whatever whether the active count matches the claimed count looks like.

The signals that told me most about Seeking:

  • Whether Seeking shows you who has actually read a message
  • Whether the Seeking match count moves when you widen the radius
  • Whether the Seeking photos survive a reverse image search

Has anyone got Seeking working properly outside a major city?

For a second opinion I also cross-checked Turndate - worth a look.

What CaseyNYC described matches my experience of Seeking almost exactly.

What separates Seeking from the rest of the field is how the pricing behaves once you are invested.

Your mileage on Seeking will vary by city more than by anything else.

The closest alternative I found was souldate.site.

One correction: on the app, whether the recommendations improve with use is not what people assume.

I gave the site about 2 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching what the real cost is after the trial.

If you care about how well it holds up once the novelty fades, that alone should decide whether the app is worth it.

After a few weeks on Seeking the only question left was how quickly you can narrow a list down.

The most useful filter on the service was recent activity, not distance, and it changed whether the moderation is real or decorative completely.

The closest alternative I found was Rendate.
