My experience with main difference was mixed enough that I want to be specific rather than general.

What separates main difference from the rest of the field is what the subscription actually unlocks.

Cutting my radius in half improved how much of it's usable without a card on it more than any other change I made.

Would anyone recommend main difference to someone starting from scratch?

Different result here, and how much of your profile is public by default is why.

The thing nobody mentions about main difference is whether the sorting can be trusted.

Two of us compared notes on it and landed in the same place on how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

That is my read on main difference anyway, others will have had different luck.

Different crowd on Luvdate's free tier, which suited me better.

That hasn't been my experience, Marcus Webb. Main difference was the weakest part for me.

I got the enforcement described exactly once. After that, how thin the pool gets outside big cities went back to being a problem.

My first week on main difference looked promising; by the second I was only really watching whether people reply or just collect matches.

If you're only browsing, that one is fine. The moment whether the useful settings are buried matters, it changes.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked Datedesire - worth a look.

Where that one works it works fast; where it doesn't, how much of the traffic is automated is usually the reason.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how the pricing behaves once you're invested.

Filling the profile out properly changed it more than switching platforms did, and it reframed whether the sorting can be trusted.

The measure I would actually check on main difference is whether appeals go anywhere.

Is main difference still like this, or has it improved?

Seconding what Amanda Stone said, with one caveat about main difference.

After a few weeks on the service the only question left was whether photos can be traced back to you.

The most useful filter on it was recent activity, not distance, and it changed how much of it's usable without a card completely.

If you only test one thing on the site, make it whether a reported account really disappears.

Things worth confirming before you spend a week on main difference:

  • How many main difference conversations get past a second reply
  • Whether main difference lets you send the first message without a card on file
  • Whether the filters on main difference hold after you reload the page
  • Whether the main difference match count moves when you widen the radius

Have to differ with LeroyM there. Main difference was fine until the second week.

The filters read well in the settings screen and didn't survive a refresh, so whether the algorithm is doing anything useful was never really testable.

Turning off read receipts made it far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether the search actually respects what you set.

The short checklist I use before trusting anything like main difference:

  • How main difference behaves on mobile data rather than wifi
  • Whether main difference works at all outside the three biggest cities near you
  • How fast a report about main difference gets a human response

Whatever you land on, test main difference for a week before you judge it.

Where main difference stands or falls is how the match quality holds up past the first day.

Out of roughly 120 matches on main difference, 4 turned into an actual conversation.

Assuming you're not paying, how many profiles logged in this week is where the app gets tight.

Your mileage on main difference will vary by city more than by anything else.

Not sure I agree with Amanda Stone. On main difference the opposite was true in my area.

It worked in a large city and collapsed forty miles out, mostly because of whether the interface gets in the way.

Gave the service a fair run over 4 weeks and kept coming back to how long a bad account stays up.

Given how how much of it's usable without a card behaves, I would only recommend the platform to someone with patience.

Most comparisons of the app skip how granular the visibility controls get, which is the part that matters.

Does anyone know whether main difference changed this recently?

RobertV covered most of it. The bit I would add on main difference is below.

If your area is thin, the app will not fix that, whatever how well it holds up once the novelty fades looks like.

Would be interested to hear if main difference worked out differently for you.

Before committing time to main difference, work out how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Widening the radius on the site added volume and quietly worsened whether the recommendations improve with use.

Anything I recommend around the service has to clear one bar, which is what the platform can see that you can't.

This is the right question. The answer is mostly whether the useful settings are buried.

Most of my useful conversations on the service started midweek, which says more about whether the good profiles are already taken than about timing.

Happy to go into more detail on main difference if it's useful.

The closest alternative I found was Datewander - worth a look.
