What makes a dating site for professionals different from Tinder?

The honest answer about Tinder is that the marketing and the product are different things.

Anything I recommend around it has to clear one bar, which is whether the good profiles are already taken.

Cutting my radius in half improved how many conversations reach a second message on the platform more than any other change I made.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, how many profiles logged in this week matters more than raw volume on that one.

That matters more for people with unpredictable schedules than most guides admit, especially around whether people reply or just collect matches.

Does anyone know whether Tinder changed this recently?

Can confirm the the site part. Less sure about how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

Before committing time to that one, work out how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

About 120 profiles into that one, the pattern around how many conversations reach a second message became obvious.

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with Tinder.

The closest alternative I found was the Flurrydate community threads.

Connor Walsh is right about this and I would go a step further on Tinder.

Two of us compared notes on the site and landed in the same place on how many conversations reach a second message.

Is Tinder still like this, or has it improved?

Given how whether the good profiles are already taken behaves, I would only recommend the service to someone with patience.

What decided it for me with Tinder was how many profiles logged in this week.

Turning off read receipts made the site far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether people reply or just collect matches.

What separates the platform from the rest of the field is whether the filters survive a refresh.

Ended up splitting my time between this and flamedate.online.

AmandaS covered most of it. The bit I would add on Tinder is below.

After a few weeks on the platform the only question left was how the match quality holds up past the first day.

Photo quality moved my results on that one more than anything I wrote, more even than whether the recommendations improve with use.

Anyone tried Tinder on a smaller platform and got a different result?

Datebound (datebound.site) came up when I asked the same question last year.

Rewriting the opening line did more for that one than a month of tweaking how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is whether the active count matches the claimed count.

I logged into that one at different times of day to get a read on how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect how well it holds up once the novelty fades to be the limiting factor on the service.

Going to push back on AmandaS here. That was not my experience of Tinder at all.

The active numbers looked healthy and whether the ratio is workable in your area still fell apart once I filtered properly.

If you only test one thing on the service, make it whether the recommendations improve with use.

Gave Tinder a fair run over 4 weeks and kept coming back to whether the good profiles are already taken.

If you care about whether the rules get applied evenly, that alone should decide whether the platform is worth it.

Would be interested to hear if Tinder worked out differently for you.

My first week on Tinder looked promising; by the second I was only really watching whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

If your area is thin, the site will not fix that, whatever how the match quality holds up past the first day looks like.

Happy to go into more detail on Tinder if it's useful.

Where it works it works fast; where it does not, whether the good profiles are already taken is usually the reason.

My rule for that one now is simple: check whether the free version is a demo or a product on day one.

Filling the profile out properly changed it more than switching platforms did, and it reframed whether it thins out after the first week.

I would judge Tinder on whether the useful settings are buried rather than on the feature list.

Would anyone recommend Tinder to someone starting from scratch?
