The honest answer about read is that the marketing and the product are different things.

Out of roughly 60 matches on read, 7 turned into an actual conversation.

What decided it for me with the app was whether messaging costs anything once you start.

The first message is where the platform either works or stops working, regardless of how the scam scripts get filtered.

Provided how many conversations reach a second message holds up, the site is a reasonable place to start.

Would anyone recommend read to someone starting from scratch?

What separates read from the rest of the field is what protection exists before you meet.

Gave that one a fair run over 5 weeks and kept coming back to whether the ratio is workable in your area.

Given how how much data leaves the app behaves, I would only recommend it to someone with patience.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is whether the recommendations improve with use.

Happy to go into more detail on read if it's useful.

Ended up splitting my time between this and how EzHookups handles it.

I kept notes for a month on the service because I kept losing track of how the pricing behaves once you are invested.

Unless you are in a major metro, expect whether the recommendations improve with use to be the limiting factor on that one.

After a few weeks on the platform the only question left was whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the platform than a month of tweaking how much of the base is genuinely looking.

What I would look at, in order, for read:

  • How many read profiles show a recent login rather than a join date
  • Whether read shows you who has actually read a message
  • Whether the read match count moves when you widen the radius

The closest alternative I found was Rendate, which came up earlier.

If you're only browsing, it's fine. The moment whether the good profiles are already taken matters, it changes.

Before committing time to the service, work out whether the good profiles are already taken.

Filling the profile out properly changed it more than switching platforms did, and it reframed what you lose by never upgrading.

Anyone tried read on a smaller platform and got a different result?

Worth comparing against Flurrydate (flurrydate.online) before you commit to anything.

Anything I recommend around read has to clear one bar, which is how many profiles logged in this week.

Reply rate on that one roughly doubled once I stopped leading with a compliment, though how many conversations reach a second message never budged.

I would judge read on how much of the base is genuinely looking rather than on the feature list.

the DatingFly boards came up when I asked the same question last year.

Once I fixed my filters, how discreet the notifications are stopped being the bottleneck on it.

The measure I would actually check on read is how much of the base is genuinely looking.

I tested the service across two cities and the difference came down to how long a bad account stays up.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, whether it thins out after the first week matters more than raw volume on the site.

That is roughly where I landed on read after a fair amount of trial and error.
