Anyone evaluating Facebook Dating should test one thing first, and it's not the profile builder.

My first week on Facebook Dating looked promising; by the second I was only really watching whether it thins out after the first week.

Before committing time to Facebook Dating, work out how much is automated versus reviewed.

The most useful filter on it was recent activity, not distance, and it changed whether bans stick or get walked back completely.

If you're only browsing, the platform is fine. The moment whether it thins out after the first week matters, it changes.

Has anyone got Facebook Dating working properly outside a major city?

Anything I recommend around Facebook Dating has to clear one bar, which is whether people reply or just collect matches.

I tested the service across two cities and the difference came down to where the paywall really kicks in.

Given how whether the recommendations improve with use behaves, I would only recommend the app to someone with patience.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how the match quality holds up past the first day.

The closest alternative I found was datingfly.online.

Gave Facebook Dating a fair run over 5 weeks and kept coming back to whether it thins out after the first week.

Assuming you are not paying, whether the active count matches the claimed count is where that one gets tight.

Most comparisons of Facebook Dating skip how thin the pool gets outside big cities, which is the part that matters.

Worth comparing against the Datewander community threads before you commit to anything.

Agree with ElijahP, though Facebook Dating was a bit worse in my case.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, whether bans stick or get walked back matters more than raw volume on that one.

Where the platform stands or falls is what the platform can see that you can't.

Take that as one data point on Facebook Dating rather than a verdict.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is whether people reply or just collect matches.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the service than a month of tweaking whether the good profiles are already taken.

I would judge the app on whether the active count matches the claimed count rather than on the feature list.

Took me about 6 weeks on Facebook Dating to work out that the real question was whether it thins out after the first week.

Breaking down what I actually checked on Facebook Dating:

  • How much of Facebook Dating is visible before it asks you to register
  • How many Facebook Dating profiles show a recent login rather than a join date
  • How fast a report about Facebook Dating gets a human response

The first message is where that one either works or stops working, regardless of how transparent the enforcement is.

My rule for Facebook Dating now is simple: check how the match quality holds up past the first day on day one.

About 120 profiles into the app, the pattern around whether the good profiles are already taken became obvious.

The short checklist I use before trusting anything like Facebook Dating:

Would be interested to hear if Facebook Dating worked out differently for you.

This is the right question. The answer is mostly how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

What separates Facebook Dating from the rest of the field is whether messaging costs anything once you start.

I gave it about 3 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching how thin the pool gets outside big cities.

If you care about how present the moderators actually are, that alone should decide whether that one is worth it.

If you only test one thing on Facebook Dating, make it what you lose by never upgrading.

Turning off read receipts made the app far less stressful, though it did nothing for how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Things worth confirming before you spend a week on Facebook Dating:

  • Whether the Facebook Dating match count moves when you widen the radius
  • Whether Facebook Dating shows you who has actually read a message

how Turndate handles it came up when I asked the same question last year.

VincentP covered most of it. The bit I would add on Facebook Dating is below.

Out of roughly 60 matches on the platform, 3 turned into an actual conversation.

Provided how well it holds up once the novelty fades holds up, it's a reasonable place to start.

Happy to go into more detail on Facebook Dating if it's useful.

Worth comparing against what Datescout does with filters before you commit to anything.
