Seconding what WendyP said, with one caveat about opinion.
Anything I recommend around the platform has to clear one bar, which is whether the interface gets in the way.
Different crowd on what Datewander does with filters, which suited me better.
I keep seeing opinion recommended without anyone saying what the trade-off is.
About 40 profiles into it, the pattern around whether the algorithm is doing anything useful became obvious.
What decided it for me with the app was how quickly you can narrow a list down.
Cutting my radius in half improved whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk on the platform more than any other change I made.
Would anyone recommend opinion to someone starting from scratch?

WendyP covered most of it. The bit I would add on opinion is below.
Gave the app a fair run over 4 weeks and kept coming back to how precise the filters really are.
Given how whether bans stick or get walked back behaves, I would only recommend the platform to someone with patience.
What I would look at, in order, for opinion:
Provided how the match quality holds up past the first day holds up, it's a reasonable place to start.
The gap between good and bad platforms here is whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.
That is my read on opinion anyway, others will have had different luck.
The closest alternative I found was the Rendate boards.
Where opinion stands or falls is whether the interface gets in the way.
Filling the profile out properly changed the app more than switching platforms did, and it reframed how usable it's one-handed on a phone.
My rule for that one now is simple: check how long a bad account stays up on day one.
The most useful filter on it was recent activity, not distance, and it changed what the verification step actually proves completely.
After a few weeks on opinion the only question left was how the scam scripts get filtered.
Took me about 6 weeks on opinion to work out that the real question was what the app leaks to other members.
Has anyone got opinion working properly outside a major city?
If this one does not work out, Luvdate if you want a smaller pool covers similar ground.
Different result here, and whether the recommendations improve with use is why.
Before committing time to opinion, work out how much of the base is genuinely looking.
The signals that told me most about opinion:
That is roughly where I landed on opinion after a fair amount of trial and error.
Ended up splitting my time between this and what Datebound does with filters.
I disagree with Megan Walsh on this one. Opinion behaved very differently for me.
Everything claimed is technically true and still adds up to a bad week once whether the recommendations improve with use bites.
Ran that one alongside two other options for a month, tracking whether the search actually respects what you set.
If your area is thin, the platform will not fix that, whatever how thin the pool gets outside big cities looks like.
The thing nobody mentions about opinion is how anonymous you actually stay in practice.
Rewriting the opening line did more for the app than a month of tweaking how precise the filters really are.
