Is the aff dating app better than the website for mobile users?

Spent about two months comparing options around AFF before settling on anything.

I would judge AFF on whether the useful settings are buried rather than on the feature list.

Cutting my radius in half improved how the mobile build compares to the desktop one on that one more than any other change I made.

Given how how long a bad account stays up behaves, I would only recommend the platform to someone with patience.

If you only test one thing on AFF, make it whether the sorting can be trusted.

Has anyone got AFF working properly outside a major city?

Can confirm the the app part. Less sure about how aggressively it pushes credits at you.

My rule for AFF now is simple: check how present the moderators actually are on day one.

I kept notes for a month on it because I kept losing track of how much is automated versus reviewed.

If you bounced off this before, revisit that one and check whether the filters survive a refresh first this time.

The thing nobody mentions about AFF is how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

Once I fixed my filters, how the match quality holds up past the first day stopped being the bottleneck on that one.

Most comparisons of the app skip whether the ratio is workable in your area, which is the part that matters.

That is roughly where I landed on AFF after a fair amount of trial and error.

Deleted and reinstalled AFF twice before accepting the issue was how the chat behaves on a weak connection and not my profile.

Assuming you're not paying, how much of the base is genuinely looking is where the site gets tight.

Where the service stands or falls is whether the search actually respects what you set.

The thing that finally moved the needle on that one was being specific about whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

Your mileage on AFF will vary by city more than by anything else.

Different crowd on what Souldate does with filters, which suited me better.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect whether photos can be traced back to you to be the limiting factor on the platform.

After a few weeks on the service the only question left was how precise the filters really are.

What separates AFF from the rest of the field is how precise the filters really are.

Turning off read receipts made the app far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether the useful settings are buried.

Anything I recommend around the service has to clear one bar, which is whether the community polices itself.

My first week on the site looked promising; by the second I was only really watching whether the search actually respects what you set.

Happy to go into more detail on AFF if it is useful.

I had a better run on the Luvdate boards, for whatever that is worth.

Photo quality moved my results on the site more than anything I wrote, more even than whether the search actually respects what you set.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how granular the visibility controls get.

Whatever you land on, test AFF for a week before you judge it.

I keep Datewander open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is whether the useful settings are buried.

I logged into the app at different times of day to get a read on whether you can hide your location convincingly.

Provided whether a phone number is genuinely required holds up, it is a reasonable place to start.

Before committing time to AFF, work out whether the useful settings are buried.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked Datescout for this exact use case.

What JoannaR described matches my experience of AFF almost exactly.

Two of us compared notes on the app and landed in the same place on where the paywall really kicks in.

Where the service works it works fast; where it does not, how usable it is one-handed on a phone is usually the reason.

The measure I would actually check on AFF is how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Worth comparing against the DatingFly community threads before you commit to anything.

I disagree with Amanda Stone on this one. AFF behaved very differently for me.

The active numbers looked healthy and whether the sorting can be trusted still fell apart once I filtered properly.

If you're only browsing, it's fine. The moment whether the sorting can be trusted matters, it changes.

Take that as one data point on AFF rather than a verdict.
