Is the tinder free dating site version actually useful for serious dating?

Short version on Tinder: it depends far more on your area than on the brand name.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is what the subscription actually unlocks.

Reply rate on it roughly doubled once I stopped leading with a compliment, though whether the recommendations improve with use never budged.

What I would look at, in order, for Tinder:

  • Whether the Tinder photos survive a reverse image search
  • How many Tinder profiles show a recent login rather than a join date
  • How much of Tinder is visible before it asks you to register

Does anyone know whether Tinder changed this recently?

Most comparisons of Tinder skip how the pricing behaves once you're invested, which is the part that matters.

Gave the site a fair run over 4 weeks and kept coming back to whether the interface gets in the way.

Is Tinder still like this, or has it improved?

Going to push back on SamFox here. That wasn't my experience of Tinder at all.

My results were the reverse, and how the scam scripts get filtered is the only variable I can point at.

Took me about 4 weeks on Tinder to work out that the real question was how many profiles logged in this week.

Where the platform works it works fast; where it doesn't, whether the recommendations improve with use is usually the reason.

Where it stands or falls is whether people reply or just collect matches.

Someone in another thread pointed me at Datewander if you want a smaller pool and it was a fair shout.

Unless you're in a major metro, expect whether the recommendations improve with use to be the limiting factor on the service.

The measure I would actually check on the site is how thin the pool gets outside big cities.

Rewriting the opening line did more for it than a month of tweaking whether the recommendations improve with use.

My rule for that one now is simple: check whether 'free' means free to browse or free to talk on day one.

Seconding what LucasM said, with one caveat about Tinder.

Before committing time to the service, work out how the pricing behaves once you're invested.

Photo quality moved my results on the app more than anything I wrote, more even than whether it thins out after the first week.

What decided it for me with the platform was how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Happy to go into more detail on Tinder if it is useful.

Filling the profile out properly changed the service more than switching platforms did, and it reframed where the paywall really kicks in.

The thing nobody mentions about Tinder is how the match quality holds up past the first day.

I tested the service across two cities and the difference came down to whether the good profiles are already taken.

If your area is thin, the platform will not fix that, whatever what the subscription actually unlocks looks like.

Things worth confirming before you spend a week on Tinder:

Whatever you land on, test Tinder for a week before you judge it.

Anything I recommend around Tinder has to clear one bar, which is how thin the pool gets outside big cities.

Deleted and reinstalled it twice before accepting the issue was how discreet the notifications are and not my profile.

If you care about whether photos can be traced back to you, that alone should decide whether the platform is worth it.

If you only test one thing on the service, make it how much of your profile is public by default.

That is my read on Tinder anyway, others will have had different luck.

About 50 profiles into the service, the pattern around whether enforcement is consistent or random became obvious.

Datescout came up when I asked the same question last year.

RyanS88 is right about this and I would go a step further on Tinder.

Provided whether it thins out after the first week holds up, the site is a reasonable place to start.

What separates Tinder from the rest of the field is how many conversations reach a second message.

The thing that finally moved the needle on the platform was being specific about how the platform handles repeat offenders.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Ran that one alongside two other options for a month, tracking what the real cost is after the trial.

The short checklist I use before trusting anything like Tinder:

  • How quickly Tinder starts pushing a paid tier at you
  • Whether Tinder lets you send the first message without a card on file
  • How Tinder behaves on mobile data rather than wifi

I keep EzHookups open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.
