If you're weighing up Tinder, the thing that decided it for me wasn't what I expected.

If you only test one thing on it, make it how many profiles logged in this week.

Photo quality moved my results on the site more than anything I wrote, more even than how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

Is Tinder still like this, or has it improved?

Seconding what DylanR said, with one caveat about Tinder.

Most comparisons of the app skip how many profiles logged in this week, which is the part that matters.

I gave Tinder about 2 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Provided whether it thins out after the first week holds up, that one is a reasonable place to start.

Datenest came up when I asked the same question last year.

Two of us compared notes on the platform and landed in the same place on how many profiles logged in this week.

Assuming you're not paying, whether the good profiles are already taken is where it gets tight.

Different crowd on the Datescout boards, which suited me better.

Nicole Grant, I hear you, but I got the reverse result with Tinder.

It was fine for browsing and useless the moment what protection exists before you meet actually mattered.

Given how how quickly reports get acted on behaves, I would only recommend that one to someone with patience.

I keep Luvdate open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

DylanR covered most of it. The bit I would add on Tinder is below.

Where it stands or falls is whether it thins out after the first week.

Whatever you land on, test Tinder for a week before you judge it.

Datebie (datebie.online) came up when I asked the same question last year.

Most of my useful conversations on the service started midweek, which says more about whether the recommendations improve with use than about timing.

After a few weeks on the platform the only question left was how many conversations reach a second message.

I logged into the service at different times of day to get a read on how many conversations reach a second message.

If you're only browsing, the service is fine. The moment how many conversations reach a second message matters, it changes.

I had a better run on DatingFly's free tier, for whatever that is worth.
