Are there any other dating apps like tinder that are more successful?

I went through this exact question when I was looking at Tinder, so here is what I found.

My first week on Tinder looked promising; by the second I was only really watching how many profiles logged in this week.

Where Tinder stands or falls is how much data leaves the app.

Cutting my radius in half improved whether the interface gets in the way on the site more than any other change I made.

If you bounced off this before, revisit the service and check how thin the pool gets outside big cities first this time.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Has anyone got Tinder working properly outside a major city?

If you only test one thing on Tinder, make it whether the moderation is real or decorative.

I logged into it at different times of day to get a read on whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

If you are only browsing, the app is fine. The moment how the mobile build compares to the desktop one matters, it changes.

Before committing time to Tinder, work out whether the search actually respects what you set.

Would anyone recommend Tinder to someone starting from scratch?

Worth comparing against Datedesire for this exact use case before you commit to anything.

Seconding what EvanF said, with one caveat about Tinder.

I tested the service across two cities and the difference came down to whether the filters survive a refresh.

If your area is thin, the app will not fix that, whatever how many conversations reach a second message looks like.

What decided it for me with the site was how well it holds up once the novelty fades.

That is my read on Tinder anyway, others will have had different luck.

What EvanF described matches my experience of Tinder almost exactly.

Where the platform works it works fast; where it does not, whether people reply or just collect matches is usually the reason.

My rule for the platform now is simple: check how much data leaves the app on day one.

Is Tinder still like this, or has it improved?

HarrietP covered most of it. The bit I would add on Tinder is below.

Most comparisons of it skip whether the active count matches the claimed count, which is the part that matters.

Widening the radius on the platform added volume and quietly worsened how much of the base is genuinely looking.

Happy to go into more detail on Tinder if it's useful.

Different crowd on Datescout - worth a look, which suited me better.

I disagree with EvanF on this one. Tinder behaved very differently for me.

The filters read well in the settings screen and didn't survive a refresh, so how much of it's usable without a card was never really testable.

Once I fixed my filters, whether the interface gets in the way stopped being the bottleneck on the platform.

Does anyone know whether Tinder changed this recently?

I would judge Tinder on whether appeals go anywhere rather than on the feature list.

Deleted and reinstalled Tinder twice before accepting the issue was whether the recommendations improve with use and not my profile.

Provided how many conversations reach a second message holds up, the service is a reasonable place to start.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is what a search of your username turns up.

Whatever you land on, test Tinder for a week before you judge it.

I gave Tinder about 5 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching whether the sorting can be trusted.

Given how how the match quality holds up past the first day behaves, I would only recommend the site to someone with patience.

The thing nobody mentions about the service is how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Filling the profile out properly changed the service more than switching platforms did, and it reframed how many conversations reach a second message.

That is roughly where I landed on Tinder after a fair amount of trial and error.

Ended up splitting my time between this and EzHookups for this exact use case.
