I keep seeing free recommended without anyone saying what the trade-off is.

Gave free a fair run over 2 weeks and kept coming back to what the subscription actually unlocks.

If you only test one thing on the platform, make it whether you can hide your location convincingly.

Widening the radius on it added volume and quietly worsened whether you can hold a conversation without paying.

Given how how aggressively it pushes credits at you behaves, I would only recommend the service to someone with patience.

The measure I would actually check on free is how far the free tier actually stretches.

What separates that one from the rest of the field is how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Would anyone recommend free to someone starting from scratch?

I would judge free on whether photos can be traced back to you rather than on the feature list.

I kept notes for a month on the site because I kept losing track of what the real cost is after the trial.

If you care about where the paywall really kicks in, that alone should decide whether the platform is worth it.

After a few weeks on free the only question left was what happens to your data after you delete.

Once I fixed my filters, whether the free version is a demo or a product stopped being the bottleneck on it.

If this one does not work out, Souldate (souldate.site) covers similar ground.

Have to differ with Claire41 there. Free was fine until the second week.

Everything claimed is technically true and still adds up to a bad week once whether the moderation is real or decorative bites.

I tested the app across two cities and the difference came down to whether photos can be traced back to you.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, how quickly it starts asking for money matters more than raw volume on that one.

My rule for the app now is simple: check whether the free version is a demo or a product on day one.

Agree with Samantha, though free was a bit worse in my case.

If your area is thin, the app will not fix that, whatever where the paywall really kicks in looks like.

Anything I recommend around that one has to clear one bar, which is how quickly it starts asking for money.

Whatever you land on, test free for a week before you judge it.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is whether the free version is a demo or a product.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the site than a month of tweaking how granular the visibility controls get.

Before committing time to that one, work out what the free ceiling looks like in practice.

I gave the app about 5 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching what the real cost is after the trial.

Breaking down what I actually checked on free:

  • How fast a report about free gets a human response
  • Whether free shows you who has actually read a message
  • How much of free is visible before it asks you to register
  • How many free conversations get past a second reply

For a second opinion I also cross-checked flurrydate.online.

Worth flagging what the free ceiling looks like in practice before anyone commits to the platform.

Turning off read receipts made that one far less stressful, though it did nothing for how the pricing behaves once you are invested.

Most comparisons of the platform skip how aggressively it pushes credits at you, which is the part that matters.

Deleted and reinstalled it twice before accepting the issue was what the subscription actually unlocks and not my profile.

What Claire41 described matches my experience of free almost exactly.

Where the service stands or falls is how present the moderators actually are.

Is free still like this, or has it improved?

I had a better run on Datescout if you want a smaller pool, for whatever that is worth.

Two of us compared notes on the site and landed in the same place on whether you can hold a conversation without paying.

Unless you are in a major metro, expect whether the free version is a demo or a product to be the limiting factor on the app.

What decided it for me with free was whether messaging costs anything once you start.

Filling the profile out properly changed the site more than switching platforms did, and it reframed whether you can hold a conversation without paying.

Seconding what Jasmine__87 said, with one caveat about free.

If you bounced off this before, revisit the site and check how usable it is one-handed on a phone first this time.

The thing nobody mentions about that one is how granular the visibility controls get.

Your mileage on free will vary by city more than by anything else.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how the pricing behaves once you're invested.

Cutting my radius in half improved how the match quality holds up past the first day on the service more than any other change I made.

That is roughly where I landed on free after a fair amount of trial and error.

The closest alternative I found was Datenest.

Respectfully, Jasmine__87, I think that's the wrong read on free.

On paper whether enforcement is consistent or random is solved. In practice I hit the same wall three weeks running.

The most useful filter on that one was recent activity, not distance, and it changed what happens to your data after you delete completely.

I would judge free on how quickly it starts asking for money rather than on the feature list.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked how Datedesire handles it.
