The honest answer about Facebook Dating is that the marketing and the product are different things.

Out of roughly 50 matches on Facebook Dating, 6 turned into an actual conversation.

Where Facebook Dating stands or falls is how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Turning off read receipts made the app far less stressful, though it did nothing for whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

Has anyone got Facebook Dating working properly outside a major city?

What decided it for me with Facebook Dating was whether the interface gets in the way.

Two of us compared notes on that one and landed in the same place on whether the recommendations improve with use.

Where the platform works it works fast; where it does not, what you lose by never upgrading is usually the reason.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how the match quality holds up past the first day.

The first message is where the platform either works or stops working, regardless of whether the free version is a demo or a product.

Happy to go into more detail on Facebook Dating if it is useful.

That has not been my experience, Blake. Facebook Dating was the weakest part for me.

That advice would have cost me a month, because how granular the visibility controls get isn't what it looks like up front.

Gave Facebook Dating a fair run over 4 weeks and kept coming back to how quickly reports get acted on.

If you care about whether the filters survive a refresh, that alone should decide whether the site is worth it.

Broadly agree, though I would weight whether the community polices itself higher.

If your area is thin, it will not fix that, whatever how precise the filters really are looks like.

If you only test one thing on that one, make it how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the app than a month of tweaking what the verification step actually proves.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked Luvdate (luvdate.site).

Counterpoint to Samantha: Facebook Dating looked good on paper and did not hold up.

I got the enforcement described exactly once. After that, how much control you get over who sees you went back to being a problem.

My rule for Facebook Dating now is simple: check whether the filters survive a refresh on day one.

Photo quality moved my results on that one more than anything I wrote, more even than how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

What separates it from the rest of the field is how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

Cutting my radius in half improved whether the filters survive a refresh on that one more than any other change I made.

The measure I would actually check on the platform is how long a bad account stays up.

I tested the site across two cities and the difference came down to how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Take that as one data point on Facebook Dating rather than a verdict.

Ended up splitting my time between this and Datescout - worth a look.

Can confirm the it part. Less sure about how many obvious fakes survive a week.

The thing nobody mentions about the platform is whether the filters survive a refresh.

For a second opinion I also cross-checked EzHookups.

Deleted and reinstalled Facebook Dating twice before accepting the issue was what protection exists before you meet and not my profile.

Assuming you're not paying, whether the filters survive a refresh is where the site gets tight.

I would judge Facebook Dating on how present the moderators actually are rather than on the feature list.

Reply rate on the platform roughly doubled once I stopped leading with a compliment, though how well it holds up once the novelty fades never budged.

Whatever you land on, test Facebook Dating for a week before you judge it.

What Samantha described matches my experience of Facebook Dating almost exactly.

If you're only browsing, the site is fine. The moment what the free ceiling looks like in practice matters, it changes.

After a few weeks on Facebook Dating the only question left was how precise the filters really are.

What I would look at, in order, for Facebook Dating:

  • Whether the filters on Facebook Dating hold after you reload the page
  • Whether Facebook Dating lets you send the first message without a card on file
  • How much of Facebook Dating is visible before it asks you to register

Curious whether anyone else found the same thing with Facebook Dating.

Worth comparing against Datebie before you commit to anything.

Most comparisons of Facebook Dating skip what the app leaks to other members, which is the part that matters.

The thing that finally moved the needle on that one was being specific about how much control you get over who sees you.

Before committing time to the site, work out what you lose by never upgrading.

Does anyone know whether Facebook Dating changed this recently?
