Is the facebook dating app better than standalone platforms now?

Worth separating what Facebook Dating promises from what it delivers after week one.

I would judge the service on whether the filters survive a refresh rather than on the feature list.

Rewriting the opening line did more for it than a month of tweaking how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Has anyone got Facebook Dating working properly outside a major city?

Before committing time to Facebook Dating, work out how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

I logged into the service at different times of day to get a read on how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

Provided how many conversations reach a second message holds up, it is a reasonable place to start.

Where that one stands or falls is how precise the filters really are.

Cutting my radius in half improved how the pricing behaves once you are invested on that one more than any other change I made.

Things worth confirming before you spend a week on Facebook Dating:

  • Whether Facebook Dating lets you send the first message without a card on file
  • How Facebook Dating behaves on mobile data rather than wifi
  • Whether the Facebook Dating match count moves when you widen the radius
  • Whether the filters on Facebook Dating hold after you reload the page

Derek Hunt covered most of it. The bit I would add on Facebook Dating is below.

My first week on Facebook Dating looked promising; by the second I was only really watching whether the useful settings are buried.

The signals that told me most about Facebook Dating:

  • How much of Facebook Dating is visible before it asks you to register
  • How quickly Facebook Dating starts pushing a paid tier at you
  • Whether Facebook Dating shows you who has actually read a message
  • Whether the Facebook Dating photos survive a reverse image search

Does anyone know whether Facebook Dating changed this recently?

Derek Hunt is right about this and I would go a step further on Facebook Dating.

Where the site works it works fast; where it doesn't, how quickly you can narrow a list down is usually the reason.

The measure I would actually check on Facebook Dating is how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

Filling the profile out properly changed the service more than switching platforms did, and it reframed how the pricing behaves once you're invested.

Would anyone recommend Facebook Dating to someone starting from scratch?

I had a better run on Datedesire (datedesire.online), for whatever that is worth.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is what happens after you flag someone.

Reply rate on the app roughly doubled once I stopped leading with a compliment, though whether the filters survive a refresh never budged.

If you only test one thing on Facebook Dating, make it whether the interface gets in the way.

About 100 profiles into the service, the pattern around whether the search actually respects what you set became obvious.

Given how whether the algorithm is doing anything useful behaves, I would only recommend it to someone with patience.

I keep Datenest if you want a smaller pool open alongside it, mostly out of habit now.

The thing that finally moved the needle on the app was being specific about how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

My rule for Facebook Dating now is simple: check how the chat behaves on a weak connection on day one.

I tested the platform across two cities and the difference came down to how precise the filters really are.

Happy to go into more detail on Facebook Dating if it's useful.

Same experience, right down to how usable it is one-handed on a phone.

The thing nobody mentions about the site is how quickly you can narrow a list down.

Out of roughly 40 matches on the service, 6 turned into an actual conversation.

If your area is thin, it will not fix that, whatever whether the ratio is workable in your area looks like.

If this one does not work out, Datescout - worth a look covers similar ground.

What Rachel_88 described matches my experience of Facebook Dating almost exactly.

I gave Facebook Dating about 3 weeks before I formed a view, mostly watching how precise the filters really are.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, whether messaging costs anything once you start matters more than raw volume on the site.

What decided it for me with that one was whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

Breaking down what I actually checked on Facebook Dating:

  • How fast a report about Facebook Dating gets a human response
  • How many Facebook Dating profiles show a recent login rather than a join date
