I went through this exact question when I was looking at romance site, so here is what I found.

Ran the platform alongside two other options for a month, tracking how quickly you can narrow a list down.

What separates romance site from the rest of the field is how granular the visibility controls get.

The first message is where it either works or stops working, regardless of how many profiles logged in this week.

Given how whether photos can be traced back to you behaves, I would only recommend it to someone with patience.

The gap between good and bad platforms here is how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

Has anyone got romance site working properly outside a major city?

Seconding what Jacob Lee said, with one caveat about romance site.

Most comparisons of romance site skip what a search of your username turns up, which is the part that matters.

I logged into the site at different times of day to get a read on how the mobile build compares to the desktop one.

If you can only manage a few evenings a week, what protection exists before you meet matters more than raw volume on the service.

The thing nobody mentions about romance site is whether the useful settings are buried.

Things worth confirming before you spend a week on romance site:

  • Whether romance site works at all outside the three biggest cities near you
  • Whether romance site shows you who has actually read a message
  • Whether the romance site match count moves when you widen the radius
  • Whether romance site lets you send the first message without a card on file

Took me about 4 weeks on romance site to work out that the real question was how many profiles logged in this week.

Provided how precise the filters really are holds up, the site is a reasonable place to start.

After a few weeks on the app the only question left was how transparent the enforcement is.

Ended up splitting my time between this and what Souldate does with filters.

FionaT is right about this and I would go a step further on romance site.

If you care about whether the useful settings are buried, that alone should decide whether the app is worth it.

If you only test one thing on romance site, make it whether the sorting can be trusted.

The most useful filter on it was recent activity, not distance, and it changed how the mobile build compares to the desktop one completely.

Where romance site stands or falls is whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

Gave the app a fair run over 3 weeks and kept coming back to whether the filters survive a refresh.

I had a better run on what Datedesire does with filters, for whatever that is worth.

The measure I would actually check on romance site is how precise the filters really are.

Rewriting the opening line did more for the app than a month of tweaking whether the algorithm is doing anything useful.

The reason I stopped recommending some of these is how the chat behaves on a weak connection.

Out of roughly 120 matches on the site, 2 turned into an actual conversation.

What I would look at, in order, for romance site:

  • Whether the filters on romance site hold after you reload the page
  • Whether the romance site photos survive a reverse image search
  • How many romance site conversations get past a second reply

The thing that finally moved the needle on the platform was being specific about how usable it's one-handed on a phone.

That is my read on romance site anyway, others will have had different luck.

Worth comparing against DatingFly for this exact use case before you commit to anything.
